Holiday Season - Tips to reduce aches and pains during your long drives and flights

Holiday season is coming up, and many of us will be going on trips away. So here are some tips and tricks help keep you fit and fresh during your trip (and stay that way when you get back).

1.      Movement is your best friend!

  • Injuries = Load x Time Under Load

  • The longer you stay in one position, the more likely you’ll get sore!

  • On your flights/drives make it a point to stop and get out of your seat for a walk around

  • If you’re driving push and pull on the steering wheel to keep your shoulders and upper back moving

2.      Watch your posture!

  •  Don’t worry, your posture ISN’T wrong!

  • BUT staying stuck in the same position means you’re NOT moving!

  • Change the position of your seat periodically (shift it back/forth, change the incline)

  • Switch it up between “sitting up straight” and “slouching”

  • If you drive with a lumbar support, try taking it away for parts of the trip

3.      Stretch! Stretch! Stretch!

  • Stretch regularly throughout your trip

  • Turn and twist your neck

  • Twist around and grab your arm rest / back of your seat

  • Lock your hands together and reach above your head / reach behind your back

  • Get up out of your seat if you need and get some standing stretches in

We hope these tips help keep you fit and healthy during your trip!

Stay safe and happy holidays. See you all in the new year!
